Hargeisa(horn)- The federal government of Ethiopia has acknowledged possession of 19% shares of the $422m Berbera port development contract held by Dubai port world.
This was revealed by Ethiopia’s transport minister Mohamed Shide during an interview with Saab TV in Djibouti where he also revealed that the government in Addis Ababa expects to utilize the Somaliland port fully as a major component of its national development.
Stating that his government was fully supportive of the 30 year contract awarded by Somaliland government to Emirat form DP World for management and development of the Berbera port, Minister Shide said that though negotiations were still ongoing as per roles, Addis Ababa fully intend to fully utilize the docks once modernization is effected.
Though seemingly evasive on the 19% shared allegedly awarded his country the Ethiopian transport minister said regardless of who owns what shares his landlocked country eyes the port as a major driver of its economic development
Minister Shide is in Djibouti for talks with officials f the country that has been over the years been a major conduit of its import and export activities.
